"It is not necessary to change. Survival is not mandatory."  William Edwards Demming

Most endeavors (projects, tasks, assignments, etc) are approached with an attitude that provides a “chance for success.” But attitude isn’t always enough, and even increasing the level of effort does little to improve your chances. Imagine you’ve got just two choices. There is the “chance for success” approach and a “leave nothing to chance” approach. Which one would you rather implement?

Chance for Success   Leave Nothing to Chance
Lack of a strategic plan   Written strategic plan
Minimum effort to standardize about the new product or service   Maximize effort to standardize everything about a new product or service
Commitment to a new product or service comes from the middle and bottom of the organization   Commitment to a new product or service comes from the top of the organization

It’s about being deliberate about what you want to do and then deliberately doing it! Just talking about it doesn’t cut it.

With so many distractions today, it is a small wonder anything gets done. Ultimately, a “leave nothing to chance” approach means choosing fewer things to focus on. In return, you will have a much higher degree of success with the things that you choose.
